The Trickle Down Theory, which came out in the 1970s, does not fit the present era where the individual is considered important. Therefore, being a trend leader requires the ability to see new trends in addition to making new ones. Environmental scanning is important to reading new trends. Environmental scanning takes into consideration 1) political system fluctuations and major events, 2) economic trends, 3) population changes, 4) weather and health, 5) technology, 6) lifestyle, 7) distribution,  and 8) etc.
